It’s been a tough month or so for Ayesha Curry. Not only did her husband, Steph, fall to LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers with a title on the line, but Ayesha is still trying to move on after taking an L of her own in the wake of a Warriors defeat during the NBA Finals.
As you might recall, Ayesha angrily tweeted that the NBA was “rigged” following Golden State’s frustrating Game 6 loss at the hands of Cleveland.
That tweet, which was deleted afterward, prompted tons of responses from both social and mainstream media. Many of those responses were critical of Ayesha, who recently spoke to People and expressed regret for how she handled her frustrations.
“I was just a fan in that moment so I didn’t think about the ramifications,” she says. “I regret the way that I voiced how hurt I was. I felt hurt for [Steph], and I didn’t mean to offend anybody. Obviously, what I wrote is not what I think about what he does for a living.”
Additionally, she also hopes that people can recognize that regret and allow her to leave it in the past.
“Since all this hoopla has happened, I have been a victim of reading the comments,” she says. “It hurts my feelings because I didn’t intend to hurt anybody. I apologized for it, and I feel like people should move on. There’s a lot more serious things going on in the world.”
The bad news for Ayesha is that some people don’t quickly forget instances like this. On the contrary, they often tend to use it as ammunition whenever they can, for as long as they can. You can bet, despite her hopes of moving on, that people will continue to bring it up for quite some time.
The good news, though, is that the more fair and balanced will recognize that this is a person who invests her emotions into supporting her spouse through both the good and bad, and that one poor response to a distressing moment doesn’t mean she deserves an endless spew of hate. Those people will agree that it’s time to let it go.
Fortunately, things are still looking up for the Curry family. Not only has Ayesha used social media to cultivate a food and lifestyle career that continues to grow, but Steph also just acquired a new friend in Golden State that should help the Warriors put last season in the rearview.
