Early Sunday morning, reportedly after frequenting the finest nightlife spots East Lansing, Michigan has to offer an NBA All-Star and All-NBA selection, Draymond Green was arrested for assault. The Warriors forward had purportedly struck someone in the face after a taunt, which is a big deal when you’re a key cog on a championship-caliber NBA team and a dangerous precedent when you’re 6-foot-7, 240 pounds.
Green had been silent about the arrest, but on Tuesday, Green made his first comments about the incident at FORTUNE’s Brainstorm Tech conference in Aspen, Colorado, per Sports Illustrated (tip of the hat to the Detroit Free Press). You can watch the video above.
“When things happen, you meet them head on,” Green told the crowd with a slightly embarrassed smile on his face. “My legal team is handling it. It will be resolved really quickly. As a public figure, I can’t put myself in certain situations. It’s something that I’ll learn from and move on.”
After Draymond was arrested, he was released on a $200 bond. A pretrial hearing hasn’t been scheduled, but he entered a plea of not guilty after waiving his arraignment hearing.
Green, 26, played college basketball in East Lansing as a four-year member of the Michigan State team. He was named to the All-NBA Second Team this past season and finished second to Kawhi Leonard in Defensive Player of the Year voting for the second-consecutive season.
The Warriors have issued a statement saying they’re still gathering facts on the case before they decide what they might do in response.
