Despite signing a two-year, $3.5 million deal with the Dallas Cowboys this past offseason, Alfred Morris still drives his Bentley. That may not sound like a big deal — until you realize that Morris’ “Bentley” is actually a 1991 Mazda 626.
Morris and his car, which he bought for $2 from his pastor as a junior in college, have gotten quite a bit of media attention since the running back entered the league back in 2012. Mazda even hooked him up with a refurbish job on the house a few years back.
As a sixth-round draft pick, he didn’t get the big initial payday that some rookies do, but he did earn more than $3 million in four seasons with the Redskins. That’s certainly enough money to upgrade his whip, but, instead, Morris stuck with what he knew. He doesn’t plan on changing that now that he’s in line for $1.8 million guaranteed from the Cowboys.
“Yes, I still have my car,” boasts Morris. “I still drive ‘Bentley’ which is what I call my car even though she’s not really a Bentley. It’s always going to be my baby and I’m going to drive it ‘til she dies.”
“‘Til death do us part” isn’t usually written into a contract to purchase a car, but Morris says that he’ll hold onto Bentley for as long as he can as a reminder to stay humble and not forget where he came from.
Though he has no plans on getting rid of Bentley, he is mulling over the option of renting a car temporarily to deal with the unpredictable weather in Texas.
“With this weather right now, all the rain storms for the past couple of weeks, I’m like, ‘Man, I don’t want my car to get in an accident!’ So I’m thinking of finding something else temporarily.”
Either way, it’s very clear that Morris and Bentley are still going strong.
