Man, you never know who is going to reunite these days. But I guess if Guns ‘N Roses can do it, anything is possible. The latest blast from the past to get the band back together is the legendary grunge supergroup, Temple of the Dog. Originally forged from members of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam, the group announced on Wednesday that they’ll be embarking on their first ever tour. The performances will follow the remastered reissue of their lone album, their 1991 self-titled release, on September 30 to celebrate its 25th anniversary.
Temple of the Dog features a who’s who of Seattle legends including Chris Cornell of Soundgarden on vocals, Pearl Jam’s bassist Jeff Ament, guitarists Stone Gossard and Mike McCready and drummer Matt Cameron, who has played with both bands at one point or another. Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder contributed vocals on the band’s biggest song, “Hunger Strike,” and the original band came together following the death of Mother Love Bone’s singer Andrew Wood, who was a close friend of everyone involved. Cornell wrote most of Temple of the Dog’s songs while grieving over Wood’s death.
In a press release, Cornell said:
“We wanted to do the one thing we never got to do … play shows and see what it feels like to be the band that we walked away from 25 years ago.”
The band played a few shows in late 1990, but these new shows would be the first time they have ever played together outside of Seattle. The five stop tour has the band playing in Philadelphia, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and back home in Seattle.
