Ever since Arrested Development season four premiered on Netflix — you remember May 26, 2013 very well; it’s when you didn’t sleep — fans have been anxiously awaiting season five. In 2014, Netflix boss Ted Sarandos said he was positive another season was in the works, “it’s just a matter of when.” Producer Brian Grazer gave a more definitive answer when he claimed “we’re going to do another 17 episodes” — he later added, in a separate interview, that production would begin in January 2015, so we should expect new episodes “four months after that.” Oops. That obviously never happened, and neither did season five debuting before the 2016 presidential election.
But creator Mitch Hurwitz swears it’s “definitely” happening! For real!
Hurwitz told reporters Wednesday that a new season is finally in sight: “We’re very close,” he said during Netflix’s day at the TCA press tour. Production could begin as soon as early 2017. “It’s what we’re trying to accomplish,” he said. Several stories have already been broken and are ready to go. But just like last season, it’s up to figuring out how to work around the actors’ schedules. (Via)
