Loving Craig Sager is an extremely easy thing to do. The iconic NBA sideline reporter is known for his glitzy, colorful outfits and his pointed in-game interviews, but in recent days, Sager has made headlines for his courageous battle with leukemia.
Despite having to take some time off, Sager has been able to get treatments and not miss too much time away from work. Even as he loses weight and attends intense consultations and radiation sessions, Sager has remained a sideline staple with a microphone and a suit so flashy that it’s visible from Pluto.
Though health issues have made him pull out of his assignment reporting at the Rio Olympics, Sager did make it a point to visit with the USA basketball team while they were in Houston on Monday. The Americans clobbered the Nigerian national team to round out their slew of domestic exhibition games before taking their talents to Brazil.
Watching Sager hug and socialize with the roster is beautiful, and of course he does it while wearing a vibrant shirt. You might notice that the players are doing their best to be careful when coming in contact with the right side of Sager’s body, because he has something in his arm while he’s making the visit.
Here’s to hoping that Sager can once and for all defeat cancer, all while encouraging people to be brave in the face of the terrible disease.
