Most people celebrate their birthday with simple things like cake with candles, ice cream and, if they’re lucky, a small gift to signify they’re cared about.
Kobe Bryant isn’t most people and most people don’t have their own signature sneaker produced by Nike Basketball. Even though he’s recently retired, Nike’s still releasing fresh colorways for his signature model, the Kobe 11, and they’ve debuted a special one on today since August 23 marks Bryant’s 38th birthday. His gift from the Swoosh is one we all can enjoy as they’re sharing a look at the latest ‘Mambacurial’ edition.
The color scheme is a nod to Kobe’s love for soccer, more specifically, his fandom for FC Barcelona. The new ‘Mambacurial’ adopts the familiar team colors of the soccer club – college navy, racer blue and university red along with a gum sole. The shoes doesn’t have much to offer in terms of twists we’ve seen on previous ‘Mambacurial’ editions but it does sport a soccer-style patch on the heel with Kobe’s logo, his initials, jersey numbers and five stars to represent the number of championship rings he owns. Truthfully, they really don’t need more because the color scheme does enough to sell the kicks.
The ‘Mambacurial’ Kobe 11 will release globally on September 8 online and at Nike retailers worldwide.
