Chances are, there are a lot of young music listeners who aren’t all that familiar with the actual work of Yoko Ono. They may (erroneously) know her as “the woman who broke up the Beatles,” and they may know her as the person who sang every other song on Double Fantasy. Well, a new reissue project is hoping to dispel those myths and oversimplifications. Ono is collaborating with the Secretly Canadian label for a massive reissue project that will re-release every album Ono made between 1968 and 1985.
The first series of reissues will be on November 11, which will see the re-release of Unfinished Music Volume One: Two Virgins, Unfinished Music Volume Two: Life With Lions, and the most famous of the group, 1970’s Plastic Ono Band. However, the full project will take a few years, and will see the reissue of hard-to-find albums such as 1981’s Seasons of Glass and 1985’s Starpeace. The releases will feature detailed reconstructions of the original vinyl packaging, and they will also be available as digital downloads for the first time. While it’s no guarantee that young music listeners will take to Ono’s music, up till now, they haven’t really had much of a chance to try it. These reissues will give them a chance to see what they’ve been missing out on.
