Remember the self-tying shoes from Back to the Future? Nike has been rumored to be developing a real-life version of those sneakers for years, and now they’re finally about to hit stores. Nike’s PR director, Heidi Burgett, revealed via Twitter that the Hyperadapt 1.0 will see a limited release beginning on November 28. The video above features Nike employees discussing the technology, and details are out about the shoe via The Verge.

The shoe is pretty sophisticated — the laces have different settings for different levels of tightness, and the shoes light up when they’re in the tying process and when the battery is low (a three-hour charge lasts about two weeks, according to Nike). The self-lacing technology is activated by a pressure sensor in the heel, and it automatically conforms to the shape of your foot. There’s no word yet on how much the shoes will cost, but you have to imagine they won’t be cheap.
For as long as these shoes have been in the works, Nike wouldn’t release them to the public if the technology wasn’t at a point where it was actually usable. That they’re putting these on sale in November means they’ve gotten there. The future is here, and it’s exciting.
