That’s Oliver From ‘The O.C.’ In That Big New Playstation Commercial

Sony is rolling out the Playstation 4 later this year. As part of the marketing campaign for the new gaming platform, they’ve started airing this huge, 90 second commercial/trailer on television. Titled “Greatness Awaits,” it features a man in a red leather suit striding confidently toward the camera while saying things like “Who are you not to be great? You, with the imagination of a brilliant child and the powers of an ancient god. Who are you to be ordinary? You, who can transcend life, or raise the dead” as popular video game characters do battle in the streets around him. It’s a pretty cool commercial, and it’s obvious Sony poured a lot of time and resources into it. There’s only one small problem…

THAT’S OLIVER FROM THE O.C..

I didn’t even recognize him at first. But then I saw the little smirk he did (pictured above), and it all came flooding back. Him trying to steal Marissa from Ryan, the lying about his girlfriend, the fake suicide attempt, the goddamn Rooney concert, all of it. And it made me livid. I’m sure the actor involved here, Taylor Handley, is a nice and talented man who loves his family and his chosen profession very much, and I feel awful that I associate his face with endless California-teen-melodrama-based rage, but there’s just nothing I can do at this point. Oliver was the worst. THE WORST. I mean, at least Johnny Harper had the decency to fall off a cliff to give viewers a little closure, you know? It’s all so infuriating I could scream until I die. Or, like, boycott Playstation and go buy 10 Xboxs (Xboxes?) in protest. That’ll teach him a lesson for trying to kill Ryan with a golf cart, right? RIGHT?

But I digress. My point here is that I am a very normal and reasonable person. Here’s the commercial.
