The single most identifiable trait of the late Craig Sager was his unparalleled fashion sense. Nobody rocked outfits while they were working quite like Sager, as his fashion choices always seemed to match, they were just, well, a little bit loud.
After paying homage to the legendary reporter earlier in the night in a touching segment about the caliber of person he was, the Inside the NBA crew decided to take a few minutes to discuss his fashion sense. It was, as you can guess, amazing.
First, Kevin Garnett spoke, and reminisced on his famous interview where he told Sager to burn the suit he was wearing. Even if you’ve seen it before, you should watch it right now, because it rules.
According to Garnett, this segment was 100 percent unplanned. Shaquille O’Neal then stepped in and talked about how he was a “fly fella,” saying he was “the first white guy I’ve seen rock colored gators.”
The best part of the segment came thanks to Charles Barkley, who remembered a time where he went with Sager to speak at one of his son’s schools. On the way, Barkley and Sager stopped to see Sager’s mother, who tore into Barkley for his insistence on making fun of Sager’s outfits.
Lastly, Kenny Smith talked about his Sager clothing memories, including one story about how the two would go shopping for threads. But far more importantly, Smith talked about how this segment was important, because it had been an emotional day for everyone as they remembered their friend.
“I’m happy that we’re at this point,” Smith said. “Because all day we’ve been mourning, crying, tears throughout the whole building.
“It’s difficult,” Smith continued. “But I’m glad we’re at the reflection of memories.”
