Though the live music streaming experience known as Boiler Room has become an international phenomenon at this point, this week marks the first time that the legendary Boiler Room live streaming session has made its way down to the Big Easy. Kicking off Monday and continuing through Wednesday the video streaming live music platform took over the Three Keys venue at Ace Hotel in New Orleans as part of a lead up to the Buku Music Festival that’s happening this weekend. In the spirit of honoring New Orleans’ incredible musical legacy, the three nights were broken down into different themes for different nights to highlight aspects of the city’s culture.
The first session was The Legacy of New Orleans Jazz:
It featured Preservation Bass, Christian Scott, DJ Soul Sister, and more.
The second session was NOLA Bounce OGs:
It featured HaSizzle and Denisia, DJ Lil Man, and a special appearance from Big Freedia.
And the third night was titled The Future Sound Of New Orleans, as curated by musician and producer Jneiro Jarel who started a global creative platform for emerging artists and innovators called the Viberian Experience project.
Jarel said he was eager to work with Boiler Room for their first event in New Orleans because it helps everything the city has to offer.
“New Orleans is ripe with culture, and holds fast to its rich musical history and traditions,” he said. “That’s one of the things I absolutely love about this city. Over the past 4 years I’ve taken a special interest in trying to raise, both local, and global awareness for some of the emerging talent in the city. VIBERIAN EXPERIENCE has been, and continues to be that platform to help foster, and push progressive ideas in music. I’m truly honored to be working with Ace Hotel for NOLA’s first ever Boiler Room, and being able to continue showing the world some of what this incredible city has to offer.”
That final installment featured Jneiro Jarel himself, Bouffant Bouffant, AF The Naysayer, DJ Otto, Adambomb, and was hosted by DJ Monet. For more info on all three sessions, go here. As Buku Festival begins this weekend, these sessions were a perfect warm up for another weekend full of music, new and old, that ties into New Orleans as one of the most musical cities in America.
