The annual Sports Emmy awards were handed out on Tuesday night in New York City, and while the Inside The NBA crew was busy with their broadcast of the Rockets and Spurs, they took some time to show a clip of the announcement that their former colleague Craig Sager had won for Outstanding Sports Personality as a Sports Reporter.

Sager, who passed away in December, had never received an individual Sports Emmy until Tuesday night, as the Sports Reporter category was introduced in 2011. The Inside The NBA crew gave a round of applause to Sager after showing the clip and Ernie Johnson noted how great it was to see Sager honored for his great work.
“That moment in New York tonight, good for the soul,” Johnson said. “Craig Sager honored with an Emmy for the best sideline reporter in the business, and we all already knew that and it was great to see.”

This has been the first NBA playoffs without Sager, who got to work his first NBA Finals last season with ESPN, and his absence has been sorely missed. Sager was as good as there was at extracting nuggets of information from coaches and players in interviews and his personality is sorely missed by the NBA.
