Lana Del Rey already teased a new song she wrote directly after Coachella, something that was inspired by current events and alludes to Led Zeppelin’s iconic “Stairway To Heaven” imagery in the lyrics. She already shared a snippet on social media, but has now released a full version of the track.
On the song she tries to sort out her feelings of love and happiness at Coachella with the encroaching threat of nuclear escalation with North Korea. Her “Stairway To Heaven” reference seems to be directed toward wanting to ask God about how this kind of violence can exist in tandem with the carefree nature of music festivals.
So far it isn’t clear whether or not the song actually appears on her record, Lust For Life, and if she really wrote it in mid-April, then it seems like it won’t, but you can listen above.
This follows up a host of new songs from Lana, including the initial, cosmic and sweeping ballad “Love,” the title track off the record that’s a collab with The Weekend, and has teased several more upcoming features, including Stevie Nicks.
Last week, Lana did an interview with Elle UK, which a music site aggregated in a mocking way, so she clapped right back at them. Clearly, when she has something to say, she isn’t afraid to speak up.
