Chris Paul engineered a deal that landed him with the Houston Rockets, LeBron James remains in Cleveland for at least one additional season and Carmelo Anthony, by way of the no-trade clause he negotiated, is stuck in New York for a little bit longer. With that as the backdrop, the “Banana Boat” crew is separated when it comes to the basketball landscape and Dwyane Wade seems to be sad about that reality.
Wade, who chose to exercise a $24 million player option despite the exit of Jimmy Butler from Chicago, is a member of the Bulls until further notice. There is plenty of reason to think that Wade could attempt to escape via buy-out or trade before the contract expires but, for now, he might be in the worst basketball situation of the entire crew.
That won’t stop him from getting his money, though, and that does make this a bit more amusing. The last time we focused on the “Banana Boat” crew came from the realization that the high-end basketball stars roast each other through text messages about fashion choices but, in the grand scheme, there is lot more intrigue about the possibility of a super team that includes several of them on the floor together in the future.
The big domino was, of course, Chris Paul going to Houston but there is plenty of buzz that James could leave Cleveland after next season and, even before that, Wade could join the best player in the world in Cleveland if he gets bought out this season. Until it happens, though, Wade will be lonely and this is a reminder of that.
