When it comes to season 7 of Game Of Thrones, the criticism was much stronger than we’ve seen before. You could point a finger at the show becoming too popular and fighting against the inevitable tide of criticism that comes with the mainstream, but it’s always been a popular show. You could also call out how it’s uncharted territory for David Benioff, Dan Weiss, and the rest of the folks behind the show. They’re now without the word of George R.R. Martin guiding them, so it is they’re version of what is happening as opposed to Martin’s version adapted.
But that’s not something you can verify. What you can pin down is something being off and many fans have pointed to the writing, even calling the seventh season “fan fiction” at times.
That’s probably why Adult Swim, in their typical snarky bumper fashion, addressed last night’s big finale in a way that echoed those criticisms:
And yeah, it is easy to fudge something like that in Photoshop, but it actually aired on television following the latest episode of Rick And Morty:

It’s nothing new for Adult Swim to take jabs like this, essentially punching up and having fun with the big cultural events or news that’s controlling the internet. The problem with this, though, is that many thought it was part of the latest Rick And Morty episode. They got the “blame” and the show’s official Twitter account had to put out a message saying they had nothing to do with it:
We had nothing to do with that game of thrones bumper after last night's ep. We hadn't seen it, that was all @adultswim. We ❤️Thrones.

Stop writing think pieces about it, you maniacs. We are pro Ice and Fire.

It’s doubtful HBO would send their team of dragons out to burn Atlanta to the ground again over this, but you never want someone to think you’re taking a dump on them publicly when you’re not. Not only would it weaken any actual attempts to do so in the future, it just isn’t the best look when you’re not expecting it. Even Justin Roiland posted that he had nothing to do with it:
Just FYI, we had nothing to do with the GOT adult swim bumper from last night. Didn't even notice it.

Dan Harmon didn’t comment due to his self-imposed Twitter hiatus, but it isn’t like he needs to. Game Of Thrones wouldn’t garner so much attention if people didn’t still enjoy it. The dialogue and story might be faltering, but there’s still ice zombies and dragons getting ready to battle while other people are dying to have sex before literally dying. It’s spectacle.
