A couple days ago, Lady Gaga shared a stirring new piano rendition of Joanne title track, “Joanne (Where Do You Think You’re Goin’?).” It turns out the track, aside from being a striking single in its own right, was also a teaser for her emotional Grammys performance.
“This is for love and compassion, even when you can’t understand,” Gaga said after she took the stage and sat at a white piano adorned with giant angel wings, presumably a symbol for her aunt Joanne, after whom her song and album were named. She began her performance (joined by Mark Ronson on acoustic guitar) with the new version of “Joanna” before transitioning into a stripped down rendition of “Million Reasons,” which is nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance.
Gaga previously said she was taking a break from music, but it looks like that at the very latest, she’ll get back to it in December 2018, when she begins performing at her two-year Las Vegas residency. Gaga is up for consideration in two categories this year: Best Pop Solo Performance for “Million Reasons” and Best Pop Vocal Album for Joanne.
