According to French Montana, Max B is coming home this year. The 39-year-old cult favorite has been incarcerated for over seven years after being convicted of murder in 2011. He’s convicted of orchestrating a robbery of two men in New Jersey that turned fatal and cost Allan Plowden and David Taylor their lives. Max, born Charles Wingate, has always maintained his innocence, and professed that his ex-girlfriend and his associate Kelvin Leerdam robbed and murdered the men on their own volition.

In 2016, his sentence was shortened from a bleak 75 years to a more manageable 20 years after he took a plea deal to turn his 12-count indictment into a single aggravated manslaughter charge. French Montana said then that with time served, he thought Max could be home by 2018. Now a recent Instagram post from French has his fans anticipating that he could indeed be released this year. Under a picture of Max, French wrote, “Wavyyyy in the joint!!! Can’t wait till u get home this year.” It’s worth noting that French has speculated on Max’s release in the past and even hinted that he would make an appearance at last year’s Hot 97 summer jam.

French’s admission that he thought he might be able to get permission for Max to visit the New Jersey concert implies that Max B is in a predicament where his custody is less stringent and his release may be imminent — or it may have been French having too much Ciroc and taking a chance. We’re only in February, so the idea that there’s still time for Max to grace the stage this year after he serves the time in New Jersey feels is apt.
