Kevin Durant has a succession plan in place. When his time dominating the NBA ends, the former MVP says he already knows who will take his place.

Durant has played 11 seasons in the NBA, but you could argue that he’s playing better than ever. The Warriors are a machine, reigning champions, and the sky seems the limit for his career, especially as he’s become one of the league’s elite defensive players.

So it’s definitely weird to consider Durant giving up his mantle at the top of the league anytime soon, but the reigning NBA Finals MVP says he trusts the process. In Durant’s eyes, Joel Embiid will take over the league as the current stars fade.

Durant was asked about Embiid on Saturday and praised his skills on the court, calling him a guy he respects.

“He’s skilled for his size. He can shoot the three. He can dribble. He developed his skills over time and he wants it,” Durant said. “He’s a great player. He’s definitely a guy that you respect. He’s going to take over this league here once I’m done.”

It’s high praise for Embiid, and it seems like Durant is in the mood to praise his fellow All-Stars. He said great things about Russell Westbrook on Saturday and even went into how he views their friendship. All-Star Weekend often puts everyone in a good mood, but Durant seems especially happy this weekend.
