The Cavaliers Have Traded Kyle Korver To The Jazz

Kyle Korver spent a little less than three years in Utah, as the veteran sharpshooter suited up for the Jazz from 2007 to 2010. It was there that Korver had his most prolific season from behind the arc, shooting a blistering 53.6 percent from downtown during the 2009-10 campaign, which is still an NBA record for a single season.

Nearly 11 years after he was first traded to Utah, the Cleveland Cavaliers have decided to send Korver back out west. According to a report by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Korver has been traded to the Jazz in a package that includes a pair of future second-round picks and Alec Burks.

While Korver has shown signs of being a 37-year-old professional athlete this year, he’s still one of the most feared marksmen in the league. He has appeared in 16 games for the Cavaliers, averaging 6.8 points in 15.7 minutes a night, but is connecting on 46.3 percent of his attempts from downtown. For a Jazz team that is desperate to get a shot in the arm on offense — they’re shooting 31.9 percent from three this year, the second-worst mark in the league — Korver is a big get, even if there are concerns about how he’ll be able to help them team in a playoff series due to his limitations as a player, particularly on the defensive end of the floor.

For Cleveland, Burks and a pair of picks is a solid value for Korver, who seemed a bit out of place as the team decided to go through a youth movement. Burks has shown flashes throughout his NBA career and can be traded again this season, while the two picks will be in second round of the 2020 and 2021 drafts.

Still, the big news here is Korver getting moved, as his name has popped up in trade rumors all season. Now, those rumors are for naught, as Korver is going from a rebuilding Cavs squad to a Jazz team that could really use his services.
