Burning jerseys is a pastime nearly as old as, well Ancient Greece, probably. People have always been passionate about their sports and always will be. Sometimes that passion makes us say and do silly things. I bet if there had been sports talk radio during the Ancient Olympic Games, you likely would have heard something like this.
“Yeah hi, long time listener, first time caller. Thanks for taking my call. I just gotta say, this Tiberius, he’s gotta go. I mean we all love his arm throwing the javelin, but he’s just never going to be elite throwing off his back foot like that. What I’d really like to see is for Athens to go after a guy like Milo.”
“Oh you’re nuts. First of all, Tiberius is under contract until 774 BC. There’s just no way they’re taking that cap hit, so unfortunately we’re stuck with him. And 2nd of all, why would Croton give up Milo? It’s not happening. But thanks for the phone call.”
I suppose the Bears fan in the video above can be forgiven for letting his passion get the best of him, but at the end of the day, the only thing that burning a jersey accomplishes is the loss of a jersey. Well that and a few minutes of internet prestige. Is that a thing?
