The great PJ Harvey tends to work in three-to-four year circles. 2000’s Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea was followed by Uh Huh Her in 2004, then came White Chalk in 2007. Well, it’s been four years since Let England Shake, so it’s time for Harvey to put out something new. Which is exactly what she’s doing, and you can watch the whole album be recorded.
Harvey has chosen to record her ninth album inside an architectural installation designed by Somerset House-based Something & Son. The structure, a recording studio in the form of an enclosed box, has one-way glazing, displaying PJ Harvey, her band, producers, and engineers as a mutating, multi-dimensional sound sculpture. (Via)
The article makes no mention of an appearance from human art exhibition Tilda Swinton, but look closely at the still-unnamed album’s liner notes and I bet she’ll be listed as playing “shoe percussion.” You can buy tickets for Recording in Progress here.
