This could’ve been a lot worse. The above video shows a large piece of the scoreboard in Roland Garros’ center court falling and eventually landing on fans below. The incident occurred during the second set of the Nishikori vs. Tsonga French Open quarterfinal.
According to the tournament’s official Twitter feed, three people sustained minor injuries. The Tennis Channel’s telecast reported that one fan was cut on the arm, which could have been the cause of this nastiness:

The match experienced an extensive delay while officials cleared out the sections below the scoreboard as a precaution:

Coincidentally, earlier this year it was announced that renovations at Roland Garros were being put on hold, a decision that may need to be reconsidered given what could have been a disastrous accident.
