Even if the news is making the clown menace in South Carolina more severe than it actually is, there’s no denying that people are a bit spooked and clowns might be the cause. The past weeks have seen reports of a clown hanging around the woods by an apartment complex in Greenville, allegedly attempting to lure children according to reports. A letter put up by the apartment complex included the following:
At no time should a child be alone at night, or walking in the roads or wooded areas at night. Also if a person or persons are seen you are to immediately call the police.
A similar incident occurred at the Canaan Pointe Apartments in Spartanburg, turning this into some sort of widespread clown problem. Another incident has been reported on Tuesday, this time outside of an apartment complex in Greensboro. The difference this time around is how witnesses decided to skip that whole “call the police” thing according to NBC News:
A statement from police in Greensboro, North Carolina, says officers responded to a 911 call Tuesday from an apartment complex, where a witness reported seeing a person wearing a clown mask, red curly wig, yellow spotted shirt, blue clown pants and clown shoes coming out of the woods.
Spokeswoman Susan Danielsen said another witness wielding a machete chased the person, who disappeared into the woods. Officers searched the area, but couldn’t find anyone matching the description. She says no children were involved in the incident.
I don’t normally find clowns to be that scary, but people are going out of their way to change that. And clowns or no clowns, there seems to be someone either copying some creepy activity around apartment complexes in South Carolina or one person is doing it all. The police are involved, so there could be some depth to all of these sightings.
