When it comes to political scandal, Hillary Clinton’s ongoing email fracas is the gift that keeps on giving. Especially since former Secretary of State Colin Powell recently denied claims he advised Clinton to use a personal email server while in office. Conservative news outlets, pundits and politicians have been all over themselves trying to dig into the details — if any — of the public’s renewed interest in Clinton’s undisclosed emails. (Don’t worry, they’re still on the hunt for more health conspiracy theories.)
Enter Late Night host Seth Meyers, whose latest “A Closer Look” segment focused on Clinton’s emails, whether or not Powell actually suggested she use a private server, and how the Clinton Foundation figures into the mix. Before doing any of that, however, the comedian was quick to fault the Democratic presidential nominee for one of her most glaring character flaws:
“How many emails does Hillary Clinton have that she could just miss 15,000? Oh no, is she one of those weirdos who has them unread on her phone? Because Trump may be a demagogue, but I cannot vote for a sociopath who does not clean out their inbox.”
All jokes aside, Meyers at the Late Night team spent some time digging through the back and forth between the Clinton campaign and Powell, who reached out to People magazine to clear the air. No, not the New York Times or the Washington Post, but People. They also reviewed new revelations that, per newly released emails investigated by NYT and countless outlets, revealed instances in which meetings and favors were coordinated between Clinton’s State Department office and the Clinton Foundation.
All very bad things, no doubt. But as Meyers reminds his audience, Clinton is running against Donald Trump, a man described by a former Republican supporter as a “12-year-old.”
