It’s hard not to love Charles Barkley‘s commentary on Inside the NBA, but his Grandpa patter can rub some people the wrong way. One such person is Rockets GM Daryl Morey, who said as much in a tweet last night when his Rockets were in Phoenix facing the Suns. Chuck’s response was about as senile as it gets and veered towards his antipathy about NBA analytics.
Here’s Morey’s tweet, and the TNT crew put it up for the audience and Chuck to see:
Best part of being at a TNT game live is it is easy to avoid Charles spewing misinformed biased vitriol disguised as entertainment

“Analytics is crap,” said Barkley before blaming Houston’s defense for their second tier status as a true title contender. After last night’s 127-118 Rockets win over the Suns, Houston is No. 7 in the league in defensive rating (points allowed per possession).
On Friday, Barkley will be appearing on an analytics panel for All-Star weekend, and it’s clear where he falls on the issue, even if his reasoning is as convoluted as this line after Shaq egged him on:
“Analytics don’t work at all. It’s just some crap to people who are really smart and made up to try and get in the game ’cause they had no talent.”
Friday’s panel just shot to the front of everyone’s itinerary this weekend.
