In case you missed it, Allen Iverson was one of 10 new members to be elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame this week. Obviously, Iverson spent most of his extremely entertaining career in Philadelphia with the 76ers — the organization retired his number in 2014 — so it only makes sense that he returns to his former stomping grounds in light of his recent achievement.
And, as one would expect, Iverson’s press conference ahead of Philadelphia’s game against the Knicks on Friday night was a reminder of why everyone misses him so much. After all, this is the guy who gave the world an entire rant about “practice.”
Sixers PR man: "Last question, guys."
Iverson, laughing: "How you gonna tell me 'Last question?' I don't play for the Sixers no more!"

Allen Iverson: "I've changed. I dabbled in skinny jeans. I went to Macy's and tried the mannequin look."

But Iverson’s press conference was also an emotional experience. The former guard spent a decade in Philly and was adored by the entire city. That type of bond doesn’t develop easily and it certainly doesn’t dissipate. “I want my legacy to be the guy that came out and gave everything he had,” Iverson said (via ESPN.com). “All 165 pounds…. The dude that played every game like it was his last.”

Iverson really did embody that scrappy, undersized combo guard who still managed to play so much bigger than he was. The amount of respect he’s earned from the city of Philadelphia, the Sixers organization and fellow players in the game was on display when he was honored before the game against the Knicks.

A huge congratulations are in order again for Iverson, who was an outstanding and exciting player, but above all, never boring.
