Free agent Chris Douglas-Roberts displayed some impressive skills in the above video at a pro pickup game in Detroit, showing off his talents on both ends of the court, and dropping 50 points on his unfortunate opponents.
The fact of the matter is, if you dropped any former NBA player — Douglas-Roberts was waived after getting dealt to Boston in January — into a pickup game, no matter how “professional” the other players are, the guy who played in the Association is going to dominate. Maybe not as much as CDR did above, but close.
The true story here — as usual with Chris Douglas-Roberts — is his choice of shorts. CDR proved while he was in the league that even if it was a one-man crusade, he was going to keep the short shorts movement alive during his time with the Los Angeles Clippers. Douglas-Roberts claimed the shorter shorts allowed him “more freedom to move laterally on defense” and yeah, sure, whatever excuse you need to bring the glorious ’80s-era crotch-grabbers back to the NBA.
Now we see that even though Douglas-Roberts’ time in the NBA may be at an end, he’s keeping the short shorts alive as he destroys opponents in pickup games across the country. Even though Douglas-Roberts’ shorts may have been considered baggy in the ’80s, they’re still extremely short by today’s standards. If only LeBron James would follow through on his word to sport the short-shorts, we really could be getting somewhere.
