The Dwyane Wade era in Chicago has really begun. He appeared onstage with Chance the Rapper at Lollapalooza, which takes place in Chicago every summer. He’s finally been photographed in his Bulls uniform. Now, he’s also met with the media as a Chicago Bull for the first time. Despite Wade’s lofty status as an NBA legend, he had made one thing perfectly clear already: The Bulls are still Jimmy Butler’s team.
Wade and Rajon Rondo are both new to the Bulls, where Butler has emerged as one of the league’s best players. Given that Wade and Rondo have been accustomed to being the lead dog for most of their career, some wondered how this would work. Even Wade himself repeatedly used the phrase “three alphas” when talking to the media. Despite this, Wade doesn’t think it will be an issue.
“We’re not going to go through this all year. It’s Jimmy Butler’s team. Myself and Rondo are here to bring what we bring as athletes.”
Wade also said that he would not have left Miami to join the Bulls if Butler had not called Wade and asked him to join him in Chicago. Wade spent four seasons playing alongside LeBron James and Chris Bosh, which was another instance of three star players having to learn to work together. Of course, neither Wade nor Rondo is in their prime at this point, so the only way forward that makes sense is for Butler to be the focal point. Wade, for his part, seems to know that. Chicago just has to hope Rondo is also on board.
