One of the most surreal coincidences of the last few months has got to be that time LeBron James steamrolled pro golfer Jason Day’s wife Ellie at a game between his Cleveland Cavaliers and the Oklahoma City Thunder. The violent collision sent Ellie, just weeks removed from giving birth, to the hospital on a stretcher. Well, someone finally got around to asking Day about that night, and he had a couple of choice quotes to share.
Apparently there’s a portion of the internet that believes Day should have been Spider-Man and leapt in front of his wife with impossibly quick reflexes to ensure that they both got trampled. Day responded to those fools appropriately:
“It’s just amazing how fast the guys are. Really, people that think I should have jumped in front of Ellie; they must have the fastest reaction time. I’m trying to learn how to get my arm in front of Ellie every time now. But it’s amazing how quick it happened.
Well, I mean, you don’t, what’s [getting in front of her] going to do? It happened so quick, I’m going to do that? I’m not going to stop a 260-pound guy that’s 6-8 running full speed. Ellie took it like a champ, though. (Laughter)”
Honestly, it’s impressive enough that Day got himself the six inches or so to the right to get out of the way of LeBron’s various limbs and such. I know that trying to protect your loved ones is important and all, but come on. Give the man a break.
