With Kevin Durant in the fold, the Golden State Warriors may not have enough shots to go around for everyone next season. With Durant, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, someone will have to swallow their pride on a given night and put up fewer shots than they would normally enjoy.
If Green has his way, however, that person will never be Durant.
“Yeah, I shot a lot today, and Draymond told me I wasn’t aggressive enough,” said Durant, who signed with the Warriors during the offseason after nine years with the Oklahoma City organization.
With a smile, he then said, “So that’s great for me.”
Green was “just basically telling me to shoot more,” Durant said.
“So everybody’s trying to make me feel comfortable. Coming from me, I’m just trying to help everybody else out. But when you have teammates that are unselfish and want you to do well, it shows, man. It shows out on the floor as well.”
Last season, Curry averaged 20 attempts per game; Durant averaged 19. Thompson put up 17 shots per game while Green was at about 10 per game. Everyone, except maybe Curry, will probably see their numbers come down a bit to accommodate Durant, the league’s third-leading scorer a year ago and is a four-time scoring champion with the highest active points per game average in the NBA. You’re damn right Draymond wants him to be more aggressive. He’d be a fool not to.
