Gatorade Marks 50th Anniversary By Airing Re-Mastered ‘Be Like Mike’ Campaign

“Sometimes I dream, that he is me…” Pretty much everyone can fill in the rest. Twenty-three years after Gatorade debuted the “Be Like Mike” campaign around a peak — right after his second title — Michael Jordan, they’re bringing it back and giving it a digital re-mastering in time for the brand’s 50-year anniversary.

Countless kids sang the chorus to themselves that summer with tongues lolling out of their mouths as they practiced their jump shot in the driveway.

Our favorite memory around the spot was watching Charles Barkley sign an appropriated chorus, “Sometimes I dream, that he is me / Like Chuck— I mean Mike…” when he was with Jordan that summer while annihilating the competition in Barcelona with the original Dream Team.
