Hurricane Florence officially made landfall in North Carolina on Friday morning, bringing with it winds, rain and a storm surge described as life-threatening by forecasters. As residents of the Carolinas and others in the mid-Atlantic brace for the storm, organizations in the region are beginning to plan for the aftermath.
The Charlotte Hornets announced a partnership on Friday between owner Michael Jordan, the franchise and the NBA to provide relief efforts to Charlotte and the surrounding region once the hurricane passes.
Michael Jordan, the Hornets and the NBA are working together with a number of community organizations to provide necessary and immediate relief and support to those affected by Hurricane Florence.

“It’s truly devastating for me to see the damage that Hurricane Florence is doing to my beloved home state of North Carolina and to the surrounding areas,” Jordan said. “The recovery effort will be massive, and it will take a long time to repair the damage and for families to get back on their feet. Together with the NBA, we have launched a platform to aid those most impacted. Please join me, the Hornets organization and the NBA and donate to one of the local organizations assisting in the relief and recovery efforts. To all those affected, stay safe and know that we’re here to help.”
The Hornets have set up relationships with the American Red Cross, Direct Relief, Foundation for the Carolinas, Second Harvest Food Bank and the United Way of Central Carolinas to help with relief efforts. The Charlotte Hornets Foundation and the NBA also said they plan to set up additional volunteering, donation efforts and potential rebuilding opportunities once the damage is calculated.
