After being wined and dined by the NBA’s elite for almost two weeks, Pau Gasol has made a decision on his future. The Spanish superstar announced his choice to play for the Chicago Bulls on twitter this afternoon.
It hasn't been easy. After meditating it a lot I've chosen to play with the Chicago Bulls. Looking forward to this new chapter of my career

Gasol was courted by a cavalcade of marquee franchises, including the Los Angeles Lakers, San Antonio Spurs, New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Miami Heat, and Dallas Mavericks. Though news broke yesterday that the Spurs were “inching closer” to becoming favorites to land him, Gasol ultimately reached a deal with Chicago after an earlier report from today indicated the two sides were close to an agreement.
How the Bulls will acquire Gasol remains unknown. Despite a past report that Chicago would amnesty Carlos Boozer to clear cap space, nothing appears imminent on that front. According to Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski, Gasol is headed to the Bulls via a simple free agency contract or a sign-and-trade.
Pau Gasol move to Bulls matter of sign-and-trade that could get him $10M per year, or straight signing for $6.5M range, sources tell Yahoo.

Either way, adding Gasol certainly improves Chicago’s chances in a wide open Eastern Conference next season. With Boozer surely on the way out, the Bulls now boast arguably the league’s top frontcourt triumvirate in Gasol, Joakim Noah, and Taj Gibson. The question now becomes how Tom Thibodeau will suss out his his post rotation, but that’s a concern Chicago would certainly rather deal with than otherwise.
Are the Bulls favorites in the East?
