Samantha Bee Responded To Angry Sonics Fans Who Trolled Council Members

A recent proposal that would have okay’d development of a new arena in Seattle and could potentially hold the next incarnation of the SuperSonics was rejected in a 5-4 vote by the city council that was divided by gender lines. All of the men on the council voted for the stadium funding, which would have vacated a street in SoDo, while the women all voted no.

Unsurprisingly, the vote generated online trolls to come out and wish bodily harm on the councilwomen for doing what they believed was right for the taxpayers. Thankfully, Samantha Bee was there to have their backs on the latest episode of Full Frontal. Calling them the “Seawards” (get it?), Bee championed the five city council women by giving them their own special starting lineup introductions complete with a list of their accomplishments followed by a comment by a random troll.

For instance, Councilwoman Debora “Slam Dunk” Juarez is the first enrolled Native American representative on the Seattle city council and is a former superior court judge and public defender. A Sonics fan told her that she needs to “go home and climb in an oven” for rejecting the new Sonics stadium proposal.

Maybe Seattle doesn’t deserve to have the Sonics back after all.
