Why Steph Curry Says There’s ‘No Pressure’ To Match The Bulls’ 72-10 Record

The Golden State Warriors are 35-2 and on a pace to have the best regular season in NBA history. They are on track to finish either 77-5 or 78-4, depending on whether you choose to round up or down, which would be plenty to eclipse the 72-10 record of the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls.

Not that Stephen Curry and the Warriors are chasing ghosts. From the San Jose Mercury News:

“People ask us after games what it feels like to be whatever our record is at that point, and you get reminded where we are,” Stephen Curry said after the Warriors beat the Sacramento Kings on Saturday night. “But when we’re out there on the floor, we’re not playing like if we lose, we’ll be off the pace. There’s no pressure when we’re out there, so that’s a good feeling.”

That’s a boring quote, but it’s probably honest. The Warriors would love to break the record, but it’s not as though that’s what pushing them on a possession-to-possession basis. That would probably drive a team insane if that’s what was on their mind at all times during a five-month regular season.

But they are one win from being halfway to that total of 72 wins, and the halfway point of the season isn’t here yet. Hopefully questions about breaking the record don’t upset the Warriors because they are going to get them from now until they win their 73rd game.
