Tim Duncan, in keeping with his well-established personality, quietly retired after an amazing career this offseason. One of the legends of the game, and a San Antonio icon, is riding off into the sunset. Before that happens, though, the city that he brought five titles to is going to honor him in the best way they know how. San Antonio is having a Tim Duncan Day.

San Antonio mayor Ivy Taylor has declared Thursday, July 21 to be Tim Duncan Day.

“Tim may not be comfortable with all the attention, but I do think he deserves it. Besides being one of the greatest players of all time, he’s also an outstanding role model. He taught us how to work hard, win and remain humble,” said the mayor.

Indeed, Duncan was never a showy player. In fact, a lot of people thought he was boring, even when he was dominating the NBA. He may not want a day dedicated to his fantastic career, but he definitely deserves one.

A banner honoring Duncan will be hung in City Hall, and denizens of San Antonio are being encouraged to wear their Duncan apparel. Additionally, they are using the hashtag #TimDuncanDay for the posting of photos online to honor Duncan. If anybody wants to find Joey Crawford and laugh or clap sarcastically at him, that would probably be appreciated as well.
