Aaron Brooks was confused. He either thought the Sacramento Kings’ Ray McCallum was a souped-up version of Russell Westbrook hungry for shot blocks or mistook trailing Chicago Bulls teammate Nikola Mirotic for 2007 LeBron James. Either way, Brooks’ needlessly ambitious and completely off-target alley-oop pass has to be one of the most depressing plays of the 2014-2015 season.
Fortunately for Tom Thibodeau’s streaky backup point guard, his curious mistake came against the wayward Sacramento Kings in a game his team won by a comfortable score of 104-86. We can only imagine the type of ire this would draw from Chicago’s hoarse-voiced coach if Brooks’ decision drastically effected the Bulls’ chance to win.
Thank goodness for 26 points and 16 rebounds from Pau Gasol, 24 points and seven dimes by Derrick Rose, and a career-high 24 points courtesy of Tony Snell.
