During the past couple of years, The Internet Archive has really been going above and beyond to keep classic computer games alive. Last year they put over 2,000 old-school MS-DOS games online, then followed it up with a collection of Windows 3.1 games. Their latest feat? Dropping over 10,000 Amiga games online for players to fall in love with again. A few of those are duplicates (the Amiga didn’t even have 10,000 games), but it’s still an impressive collection.
For those unfamiliar, the Amiga was released in 1985 as a successor to the popular Commodore 64. In America, the Amiga was outdone by the NES, but it was the dominant gaming platform in the UK and Germany, and most major computer games of the era came out on it. The Internet Archive’s collection contains a ton of classics like Bubble Bobble, Batman, The Lost Vikings, Turrican, and several King’s Quest and Lemmings titles. Also, a whole lot of random wacky crap with evocative titles like Sexanoids and Ball Raider, but hey, it’s all free, so who are you to complain?
You can check out The Internet Archive’s collection of Amiga games, which can all be played in your browser without any special software, right here. Find any nostalgic favorites on there? Feel free to chat about the glory of late ’80s computer games, below.
