The massive film trilogy for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them promised by Warner Bros. is closer to becoming a reality. Not just because we’re less than a year away from the first film’s intended release date, but because director David Yates and Warner Bros. are already eyeing potential castmembers.
According to Variety, Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne is a current favorite:
Sources tell Variety that Redmayne is the favorite to play Newt Scamander in Warner Bros.’ hotly-anticipated “Harry Potter” spin-off, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”
He’s a “favorite” for sure, but nothing has been confirmed outside of the initial report. That basically means this is just a rumor, but a really good one.
Redmayne recently wrapped Tom Hooper’s “The Danish Girl” and has yet to receive an official offer. Director David Yates is still also considering a few other actors for the part but the role, according to sources, is Redmayne’s to lose.
Just in case you forgot, The Danish Girl is the film in which Redmayne plays transgender artist Lili Elbe. A brief reminder for you all:
If he joins the J.K. Rowling-scripted film, Redmayne will definitely be fantastic.
