There’s been a lot of casting speculation lately over the X-Men spin-off Gambit. Will Channing Tatum be donning the pocket-covered duster and cheesy Cajun accent or not? Well, it turns out he is, so now we have to figure out who else is in the movie.
According to Deadline, there are a few names in the running to play the movie’s female lead, Bella Donna Boudreaux. Bella Donna is a psychic mutant with a long history with Gambit. They’ve known each other since childhood, have been married, and she’s tried to kill Gambit a few times. It’s complicated.
The names currently on the short list are Rebecca Ferguson, who recently burst onto the scene in Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation.
Lea Seydoux, of Blue is the Warmest Color and Spectre (she won’t have to work hard to nail the French accent).
And finally, Abbey Lee, who you might recognize as one of the wives from Mad Max: Fury Road.
It’s a talented line-up, so let’s hope Gambit breaks with Marvel tradition and actually gives the Bella Donna character something significant to do. Gambit will be directed by Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) and is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2016.
