Kingsman: The Secret Service was a solid hit for Fox, pulling in more than $400 million worldwide, so, unsurprisingly, the studio is looking to turn their R-rated James Bond revamp into an ongoing series. We know Taron Egerton will be back as protagonist Eggsy, but they’ll have to replace Samuel L. Jackson as the villain, on account of his character being dead. I suppose that was a spoiler, but does the villain dying at the end of a spy movie really count? I’m going to say no.
Well, Kingsman 2 may go in a rather different direction for its villain, as Julianne Moore is apparently in talks to play Kingsman‘s new antagonist. We don’t have many specifics about said villain, but Taron Egerton did recently talk about the character in general terms…
“With Kingsman 2, we’re shooting in the summer at present. There’s a script, it’s brilliant. Obviously there’s only so much I can say, but what I can say is that we shot the first one all in the UK, that won’t be the case with the next one. It’s a far more international story, we’re going to some incredible places, and we have a villain to rival Samuel L. Jackson—this new one is so brilliantly written I wish I could play it. It’s amazing.”
Matthew Vaughn is back in the director’s seat for Kingsman 2 and, as hinted in the above quote, the action will mostly be moving to America this time around. Unfortunately, there’s one key part of the first movie that probably won’t be returning (okay, real spoilers ahead).

Originally, there were plans to gin up some sort of return for Colin Firth, who was the recipient of a bullet to the head in the first Kingsman. Ideas included flashbacks and even an identical twin, but ultimately Firth’s return was simply scrapped. Try to keep a stiff upper lip about it.
Kingsman 2 is set to begin filming this April, for a June 16, 2017 release.
