Marvel finally gave Mark Ruffalo an organic fruit basket lined with bundles of cash and a promise they wouldn’t do any fracking to get him to play Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok. Now that he can talk about the project a bit, and comment on all the new cast members, he spoke to Entertainment Tonight about Ragnarok, which we’d already heard rumors would follow Hulk and Thor teaming up to cancel the apocalypse, and Chris Hemsworth called it a “buddy movie.” Ruffalo confirmed as much, telling ET, “It’s an intergalactic buddy road movie with Banner and Thor.”
An intergalactic buddy road movie. With Hulk and Thor. Directed by Taika Waititi from What We Do in the Shadows. That’ll do, Marvel.
Ruffalo also commented on one of the new cast members. To recap, Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Idris Elba (Heimdall) and Anthony Hopkins (Odin) are all returning for a story taking place mostly in space (hence no Natalie Portman). New cast members include Cate Blanchett as Hela (a.k.a. The Death Queen), Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Karl Urban as Skurge, and Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster.
Regarding the casting of Cate Blanchett as one of the villains, Ruffalo commented:
“She plays the worst of the worst. So evil. She is going to kill us. It’s such a great part she gets to play.”
Jeez, dude. Spoilers. I didn’t need to know both Hulk and Thor totally die in Thor: Ragnarok. That’s really going to complicate things in the next Avengers movies. Yes this is sarcasm.
