A New ‘X-Files’ Teaser Starts With A UFO Crash And Gets Crazier From There

The X-Files has, to this point, largely kept things under its hat. The six-episode series will explore both how the conspiracy Mulder and Scully spent almost a decade fighting has changed in an area where government surveillance is a fact of life and we’re more afraid of law enforcement than aliens. But the more things change, the more they stay the same, as this teaser proves.

First off is, well, this:

Yeah, that would be something of an announcement for this series. We quickly cycle through a whole bunch of shots, overlaid with Mulder delivering a monologue about the state of the world today, and we even get a brief glimpse of a few familiar characters, including none other than the Cigarette Smoking Man, who appears to have survived his seeming death by missile fire in the series’ finale, albeit not without scars.

Most interesting is the implication at the end that the overall conspiracy arc has something to do with William, Mulder and Scully’s baby that they gave up for adoption. Considering William was a “miraculous birth” as Scully was unable to conceive, that seems to be a plot thread the series tugs on rather hard this go-round.

We won’t have to wait long to find out if the truth really is still out there; The X-Files arrives over two nights next Sunday the 24th and Monday the 25th.
