NBC’s Powerless really is one of the more intriguing superhero TV series on the near horizon. The show stars Vanessa Hudgens as Emily Locke, an insurance adjuster with a cast of wacky co-workers, which sounds right out of the NBC workplace comedy handbook, right? Well, the difference is, Powerless takes place in the DC Universe and Emily’s agency specializes in offering superhero insurance to people who want to protect their house against the latest Justice League brawl. It’s an interesting concept, but it’s hard to know how it will play out. Nothing quite like this has ever been tried before.
Well, we now have a better idea of what Powerless will be like, thanks to a seemingly leaked trailer (forgive the slightly low quality). The trailer contains more superhero action than you might expect – the first thing we see is DC hero Crimson Fox dramatically saving a runaway train, and there’s more action and explosions peppered throughout. The rest of the trailer mostly showcases the always-charming Vanessa Hudgens, and some fairly broad comedy, although I’ll admit I chuckled at Danny Pudi’s fanny pack “utility belt.” We’ll reserve further judgment until NBC officially posts a trailer itself.
What do you folks think of Powerless? Willing to give something other than a straight comic book adaptation a shot? Could this fill the NBC workplace comedy void?
