With Warner reportedly going through shake-ups following Batman V Superman‘s lower-than-expected box office returns, they’re definitely hoping the highly-anticipated summer movie Suicide Squad will fill seats, and they even put more money into it by doing reshoots. A recent test screening garnered praise, and now additional (mostly) positive reactions are in from another test screening this weekend in Sacramento, California.
The test screening wasn’t loaded up with die-hard DC Comics fans, either. Redditor soyodu says the test screening was described as “an upcoming action movie” and he thought he’d be watching “Bourne, Trek or IDR” until he saw the Warner logo on a non-disclosure agreement just before the movie started. That same Redditor also said, “This is an unfinished cut. There was lots that I really liked, good action, pacing (for the most part)” then went on to say, “There were two characters I didn’t like. Felt nothing towards them and when they had that so called emotional scene at the end, nothing. The villain was a big disappointment considering how fresh the idea I thought it was. I still thought it was a very good movie.”
Another Redditor, Malachim, described it as an “excellent movie” which tells “a very straightforward story with an amazing cast.” Not surprisingly, this person said Harley Quinn steals the show (which her in-development spin-off movie already suggests). He or she went on to say, “This is the type of movie that demands a sequel. I’m sure critics will find ways to hate it (it’s basically a gritty action movie with comic book characters and a Hot Topic aesthetic, which honestly might turn critics off), but DC fans will like it. The BIG thing is that the movie literally saves DCEU Batman. This Batman is BTAS personified.”
We also learned from the Reddit thread (where posts which go into too much detail are getting pulled down quickly) that Batman is only in the movie for “less than 5 minutes” (well, yeah, it was always billed as a cameo) and the Joker is in the film for “maybe 20 minutes total,” which also isn’t surprising because how much of that could anyone take? We also learned Suicide Squad takes place after Batman V Superman, so a character mentions a death that takes place in BvS. This also isn’t much of a spoiler, considering the “blitz trailer” hinted at it strongly by showing someone use the past tense to refer to that character.
A few reactions showed up on Twitter, as well:

Wait, best DC movie he’s ever seen? So… better than Man of Steel and Batman V Superman then? IMPOSSIBLE.
