I’m not stating anything terribly shocking when I say the Transformers movies are a bit formulaic. When you sit down with your popcorn and bucket of root beer to watch a Michael Bay Transformers movie, you know what you’re going to get — Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee and pretty models bending over car engines a-go-go. Well, except for the last movie, Transformers: Age of Extinction, which swapped out Megatron for Galvatron. Sure, Galvatron was actually possessed by the robo spirit of Megatron, but it wasn’t quite the same.
This weekend, Paramount released a new teaser for Transformers: The Last Knight. Sharp fans quickly figured out that the Morse code in the video was pointing toward something happening on May 31.

Well, it’s now May 31, and it turns out the teaser was for Megatron, who’s returning and getting a bit of a redesign from the look of things.
As you can see, Michael Bay also confirmed production begins this week. The return of Megatron isn’t terribly unexpected, but it is confirmation that Transformers: The Last Knight is going back to basics after Age of Extinction went a little bit further afield. Whether that’s a good or bad thing is up to you.
Transformers: The Last Knight hits theaters June 23, 2017.
