Freddie Gibbs Is Out On Bail In His Austrian Sexual Assault Case

Freddie Gibbs is out on bail, according to a report by Reuters. The conditions of his bail required Gibbs to pay 50,000 Euros, approximately $56,560 USD, and to surrender his passport. On Wednesday, the Gary, Indiana rapper was officially charged with sexual assault from an incident that allegedly happened last year. If convicted, Gibbs will face a maximum of ten years in prison.

Gibbs’ lawyer, Theodore Simon, released a statement after his client made bail:

“Freddie Gibbs was released today on bail. We believe this is the first step toward his eventual exoneration and vindication. We are pleased and thankful that the Court recognized the same trust and confidence we have in Freddie that justified his release. Immediately after his release I spoke with Freddie who expressed his heartfelt appreciation and thanks for the overwhelming outpouring of support he has received.”

His lawyer made it a point to reinforce that the rapper was “100% innocent” and that the sexual assault charge is “only an allegation.” He said that Gibbs is hopeful “that a thorough, searching and complete investigation will reveal the actual facts, including the absence of any scientific, physical, or credible evidence implicating him, thereby paving the way for his exoneration and return to his family and one-year old child.”

Lastly, Simon made it a point to say that Gibbs has been “fully cooperative” with law enforcement and judicial authorities. He’s just waiting for “the opportunity to provide the authorities and the Court with the substantial and compelling exonerating evidence that he has compiled.”
