The movie formally known as Avengers: Infinity War Part I shall henceforth be known simply as Avengers: Infinity War.
Disney notified press of the title update on Friday afternoon. This comes after Joe and Anthony Russo told Uproxx (a sister site to HitFix) back in May that Avengers: Infinity War Part I and Avengers: Infinity War Part II would be getting new titles.
“The movies are two very different movies,” Joe Russo explained.
Seems like a good reason to get rid of the “Part I,” “Part II,” nonsense, along with the audience fatigue that developed after one too many franchises split sequels in half.
Today”s update also confirmed that the Avengers: Infinity War release date remains unchanged (May 4, 2018), as does the release date of the next Avengers movie (May 3, 2019). That film, formerly Avengers: Infinity War Part II, is now getting a temporary new title of Untitled Avengers from Disney.
