Sure, when “The X-Files” first came to our television sets, David Duchonvy was the more experienced, more well-known actor. But Gillian Anderson soon proved to be just as much of a star and just as much of an audience draw. So you'd think that, now, 20 years later, she'd command the same salary for the “X-Files” revival as her co-star.
Yeah, no. Anderson revealed a few weeks ago that she was only offered half of what Duchovny made for the six-episode series, but that interview didn't follow up on it other than to say that, in the end, they earned the same amount.
Fortunately, The Daily Beast asked her about it again.
“Even in interviews in the last few years, people have said to me, 'I can”t believe that happened, how did you feel about it, that is insane,'” Anderson said of the pay gap between her and Duchovny on the original series (which she had to fight hard for years to close). “And my response always was, 'That was then, this is now.' And then it happened again! I don”t even know what to say about it.”
“It is … sad,” she concluded. “It is sad.”
